Voting Resources

Voter Registration:

You are qualified to vote if:

  • You are a citizen of the United States.
  • You are at least 18 years old on or before the day of the General Election. If you will be 18 on or before the day of the general election, you may vote in the Primary Election for candidates only, but not on the issues.
  • You will be a resident of Ohio for at least 30 days before the election.
  • You register to vote at least 30 days before the election.

Register by mail:

  • You may request a registration form from the Board of Elections or the Secretary of State's office by mail, telephone, in person.
  • Mailed registration forms sent to the Board of Elections or the Secretary of State's office must be postmarked 30 days before an election to be valid.
  • All other registration forms must be received by the Board of Elections or any branch registration agency 30 days before an election to be valid for that election.

Absentee Voter Application: Absentee voting allows you to vote at any time up to 35 days before a General Election.

How to Apply:

You may complete an Absentee Voter Application Form by visiting the Board of Elections Web site and clicking the Absentee Voting link. You may also write or go to the Board of Elections and request an absentee ballot, giving the following information:

  • Your name and voting residence.
  • The election for which you are requesting a ballot.
  • Your party choice, if the election is a Primary, or that you want to vote an issues-only ballot.(Under Ohio Election Law, the ballot you vote in a Primary Election determines your party affiliation).
  • The mailing address to which you want your ballot sent.
  • Your date of birth.
  • Your complete legal signature or mark.
  • Ohio Election Law does not recognize a Power of Attorney. If the voter is unable to sign, the voter must make a mark and may be witnessed and signed by another person.
