Appointed Montgomery County Auditor to fill an unexpired term in December 2000, voters have since elected Karl Keith to serve six full terms, most recently in 2022.

Auditor Keith has been recognized with state and national awards for developing innovative initiatives to make government more responsive, more transparent and more accessible to the public. He is a recipient of the Ohio Government Finance Officers Association Lifetime Achievement Award, the Dayton Realtors' Fair Housing Award, and the County Auditors' Association of Ohio's Outstanding County Auditor Award.

Under Keith's leadership, the Auditor's Office has gained statewide attention for its efforts to protect consumers from credit card skimmers on gas pumps and misleading pricing at dollar stores. In addition, his office has earned the GFOA's Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting, the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting, every year he has served as Auditor.

Auditor Keith has held numerous leadership positions in the County Auditors Association of Ohio, including a term as president. He served two terms on the Ashland University Alumni Board of Directors that included a year as president of the Board. He is a Lifetime Member of the Dayton Unit NAACP and has served on the Board of Directors for the Friends of the Levitt Pavilion in Dayton.

A Certified Cash Manager, Auditor Keith earned a bachelor's degree in political science from Ashland College and a master's degree in political science from Miami University. He and his wife, Doris, reside in the City of Dayton.
